Meet Michael Distasio
Valor Advisers was founded by Michael Distasio with the sole purpose of offering sound financial advice and support to first responders and their families. Michael has 13 family members who are either active or former first responders, so he understands deeply the sacrifice and selflessness of this career, and he recognized a need to provide affordable, honest investment and tax advice to those who serve and protect their communities.
Michael is part of the elite group of financial advisers known as Registered Investment Advisers (RIA), or fiduciaries. Michael earned his accounting degree from Lewis University and he is also licensed in Life & Health insurance. His passion for investing and taxes started at a very young age. By 7th grade, his parents got him a subscription to Investors Business Daily, which he diligently read before school each day. By age 13, he purchased his first stock, and he never turned down an opportunity to provide financial advice to those in need from then on.
Before starting his own firm, Michael worked at AHP Capital Management where he helped the real estate fund grow from $5 million to $75 million while increasing investor count from 250 to 2500 people. Prior to that, Michael worked in the public sector, performing tax audits and fraud research on America’s biggest corporations as well as small businesses for the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance. Michael has also worked for the Rosenthal Collins Group, known in the industry as a Futures Commission Merchant, and for the Chicago Board of Trade in the Soybean Options pit, a position that taught him firsthand how trading and markets work.
Michael is Treasurer of the Chicago Police Foundation. The CPF’s mission is to improve public safety in the city of Chicago through support of and funding of programs, equipment, supplemental resources and trainings for the Chicago Police Department. Michael also volunteers time and money to several other First Responder organizations. He frequently speaks at academic institutions, including Lewis University, Marist High School, De LaSalle High School and Algonquin Middle School, to empower young students through financial literacy. Long-term, Michael would like to create a $100k scholarship fund for First Responder families, and he is working toward making this a reality.

Our Core Values
Our values are more than buzzwords. These are the same values that the amazing men and women protecting our communities embody every day. America’s First Responders bring these words to life through their heroic actions and selflessness when we need it most. Hero isn’t simply a title that a First Responder wakes up with. Rather, it is a title that is earned every day through sweat, tears, and sacrifice.
At Valor Advisers, we vow to uphold these values through our every action in dedication to those holding The Thin Red and Blue Lines. Reach out to us today for financial advising services that matter to you.
